Japan-related Materials
The collection of Oraimono, textbooks, and books which dealing with primary education from the beginning of the Meiji era. It was established by Mr. Mochizuki Gunshiro, as one of the commemorative projects of the 50th anniversary of Tokyo Aoyama Normal School in 1926.

The materials donated by the editorial committee for the history of education led by Mr. Shigejiro Matsuura. The committee completed the "History of the Development of the Education System since the Meiji Era" in 1938 and when it was dissolved, materials were donated to Tokyo Oizumi Normal School, one of the predecessors of Tokyo Gakugei University. The contents include a draft in Mr. Matsuura's own handwriting, educational regulations, elementary school textbooks, and materials related to the history of education.

Representative textbooks, educational books, and other materials donated to Japan from the United States in early 1947 (approximately 350 volumes and 13 sets). In addition to the Ministry of Education and the Civil Information and Educational Division of the GHQ, the American Education Library was established at 11 institutions across the country, including Tokyo Gakugei University. The library was renamed the Textbooks and Curriculum Library (T.C.L.) in July 1948, with the addition of Japanese textbooks and curriculum guidelines. At Tokyo Gakugei University, this library was first established in the Women's Division of the Second Normal School, the predecessor of the Oiwake School, and absorbed later the American Education Library (A.E.L.) which has been established in the Setagaya Branch School in 1949.

The Institute For Educational Leadership (IFEL) is the name of educational leaders courses which were provided by the Ministry of Education and CIE (GHQ/SCAP Civil Information and Educational Section). It was carried out eight times during 1948 and 1952.
The aim of those courses was training educational leaders (1st-4th) and retraining pedagogy faculty of universities (5th-8th).
The research results of this training course, the "Educational Instructors Training Research Collection," was compiled by the participants in each of the 25 courses, and is a valuable document that shows the actual status of IFEL.
Many of the originals in the university's collection are from the 5th and 6th lectures held in 1950, especially those related to the management and educational content of the elementary schools offered at the university.

This microfiche collection is a part of the Gordon W. Prange Collection held in McKeldin library, University of Maryland. Dr. Gordon W. Prange(1910-1980, a chief historian in GHQ) was a professor of history at the University of Maryland, and he had tried to preserve Japanese print publications issued during the early years of the Occupation of Japan after their censorship. Tokyo Gakugei University Library holds microfiche version of magazines mainly published from 1945 to 1949.

ReferencesThis collection contains books, periodicals mainly dealing with philosophy, history, literature, and social science. In 1947, Tokyo First Girls' Normal School, one of the predecessors of Tokyo Gakugei University, bought them from the Central Federation of Nippon Culture.

This collection contains about 320 choral scores, poems and music CDs of Japanese famous poet Shuntaro Tanikawa. In 2017, he was invited as a lecturer to a choral music course held by the music department of the university, and the chronicle "Koe ga sekai wo dakishimemasu" (the voices hold the world) was published by Tokyo Gakugei University press. In the process of making this book, his collection of choral scores were donated to the library. The collection was named "Koe no Aurora" (Aurora of voices) after a passage from the poem "Gassho" (chorus) written for the book.
